With a background as a professional rock guitarist, musical influences play a large part in Kjell Engman's work. The Swedish glass artist has created Fidji, an object of multiple colors merged into one whose shape bears a resemblance to the musical instrument organ pipe. The Crackle Bowl is inspired by frozen ice that has just cracked. The design influence is from the convergence of hotglass and cold water that creates a crackled finish. The designer wanted to create a surfacereminiscent of frozen, crusted ice. A crunchy, crackling feel. The techniqueis old, but the designer uses it in her own personal way.
